How we select films

The goal is a collection of 1000 films worth exploring. Editorial picks and automatically collected metadata are distinguished. We do not claim that unverified entries meet IMDb rating criteria.

Candidate criteria

Feature films released from January 1, 1980 onward, already released as of the collection date, with IMDb ≥ 7.0 and at least 30,000 votes. These criteria require licensed, verified IMDb data.

Multiple perspectives

Audience scores, critic reception, region and genre diversity are separate signals. The Rotten Tomatoes percentage measures positive reviews, rather than the average quality rating.

Personal recommendations

Your ratings inform genre, theme, creator and country similarity. Watched titles are excluded. Without ratings, editorial picks provide a starting point.
